New to the area
What's up?
My name is Sophie...obviously. I am new to the area and wondering what the Punk scene is around here? I just happened to run across this site ( gotta love GOOGLE!) and hoping I could find some people my age who enjoy the same scene I do.
SO......
What local bands should I check out?
Best/Worst venues?
and just for a conversation starter:
What punk rock band is your favorite and has inspired you the most?
Just trying to learn more about the people of NASHVEGAS ( why its referres as that IDK but what the heck) and just make some new buds!
Peace-
SophieQ

Re: New to the area
Welcome to Nashville. Nashvegas comes from all the lights down on Broadway and the amount of tourists we get. How old you are will determine where you wanna go. If you're 21 or over, then you've got all the options in town.
Bands you wanna check out are Hillbilly Casino for badass Rockabilly and Punk.
Radio Death Wave
Desperate Measures
Fist Of The North Star
The Creeping Cruds for the Horror Rock
AKA Rudie for the Traditional Ska
Beat Officers for a more third wave ska sound.
Stuck Lucky for the Skacore
Elevens Up for the Pop punk
There's more, but that's the list off the top of my head.
And trust me, with that avatar pic, you're gonna make friends with the guys real quick. How YOU doin?

Re: New to the area
Thanks!
I havent been down Broadway at night yet, so I will have to check that out.
Now, you are making me think that I should change the avatar...Dont wanna give the wrong impression, you know
I am most certainly over the age of 21 if that helps any.
Thanks for breaking down the bands. Hillbilly Casino and The Beat Officers are very interesting names...I like it.
I will have to work my way up to seeing some shows. Believe it or not, I can be shy socially, especially when I dont know anyone!!

Re: New to the area
You change that avatar and I'll spank dat ass the first time I meet ya. What part of town are you in? Foobar is the local hangout on the East side. The end and Goldrush for the Vandy area. The Muse for all ages shows that you can drink at and where most of the shows go down. Its on 4th ave. south.
Re: New to the area
foo bar's pretty cool. the regulars are of the friendly sort, and pose good conversation with strangers. that's the first place i checked out (i've only been here a couple months myself)
checkin out the muse for the first time tomorrow. some metal show... hopefully not full of children. that's been my one issue since i got here.. everywhere i go it seems to be people under 21, likely even under 18. and i'm not so keen on hanging out with minors.
nice to meet ya.
haven't seen many of the local bands yet, but creeping cruds were good live.
oh, and favorite band... changes daily.. today we'll go with the exploding hearts.

punk/crust/art/squatters/rollies......little hamilton
and my favorite inspiring punk band is any of these old bastards that won't give up and still tour and don't puss out....
and the younger bands that are just starting up and have a good time.
that was lame as hell but it's totally true.

hola ..
The Muse is fun, the Rutledge sucks (for punk rock)
The Dead Kennedy's & Bad Religion are great
Re: New to the area
I have heard mixed reviews for the Muse on here though....
Is it just for " little kids" ?
The Dead Kennedy's are all right.
I do like some Bad Religion though

The Muse is all ages, which is great for people who book shows, so there are a lot of kids sometimes
but kids make the circle pits go round .. and you can still drink, which is sweet
Re: New to the area
welcome to nashville.
gotta love goldrush & foobar...
i think the muse gets a bad rep just cuz it's a little dirty (yet people love springwater and don't seem to care it dirty...). both fun places to see and play shows at.
as far as the band question....that's a tough one. it's all rocknroll to me. i wanted to be malcolm young when i was a kid, so AC/DC.

Re: New to the area
Just hang out at Foobar and you will meet some nice locals. Some are into punk, some not. Most of the regulars there are awesome folks into cool shit. As for shows, don't ask me. I really only mess with Foobar, The End and Springwater.

Not anymore. I am thinking about redoing my facebook. I deleted in right after I moved here because I am looking for a job OTHER than waitressing( not that there is anything wrong with it, its just a temporary job till I can find something more suiting of my personality. The job market sucks). I had a friend back in philly who got fired from a job because of his facebook. I was surprised. Its sad that employers can use online profiles to evaulate employees on when it does not affect their work ethic at all. I didnt want that to happen to me here. I will get off my soapbox now....
maybe I could use an alias or something. I dont know if that would work or not.

Some people want a clean antiseptic environment. The Muse isn't that dirty it's just kind of lame. Out of all the places around here my favorite is Springwater. the bands suck there but there's a taco stand in the back.
Re: New to the area
is moonstomp sunday? we should all go up there on the next moonstomp and have a big welcome to nashville party for all you new folks on here.
Re: New to the area
I'm guessing that a few of us might be able to "carpool" too. I've been super pissed it looks like our neighbors dog mauled the shit out of my dog yesterday. She has 18 to 20 puncture wounds and some severe muscle trauma. Fuck the "fine upstanding Christians" in Smyrna. Actually they should probably pray I don't find some sort of evidence that their dog did it.wakmaster wrote:is moonstomp sunday? we should all go up there on the next moonstomp and have a big welcome to nashville party for all you new folks on here.

what's moonstomp? we were plannin on driving back into town friday, but sunday might be doable instead.
the show last night at the muse was worthless.. too many people not nearly enough space. couldn't get even three feet in the door to see the bands, it was packed wall to wall. spent all night on the patio. i'll give the venue another shot, and i definitely want to go to nashbash, but i'm not gonna try to see any more metal shows there.

Re: New to the area
welcome n stuff.
Foobar is decent since they got the new PA, 5 Spot is a cool venue depending on who's playing, springwater is a dive's dive. The muse has great potential, but it needs some TLC. the PA is (or was in december when we played with Nekromantix) a disaster, at least for the bands. It doesnt' sound bad out front, but the monitors are shit. I'd love to bring bands there, but I don't wanna get an earful about how bad the PA is. The End is a great place to see shows too.

that's awfully nice calling those chairs out front a patio...ahh smoking over the scenic view of the overpass. The muse is better than nothing and not better than much else.
what was the show?
