Barbershops

I'm looking for a good old style barbershop in the Nashville area, one that's experienced and good at like rockabilly style do's, pompadours, quiffs, DA's, etc. Anybody know a good barbershop? Not a salon, not a quick cuts, legitimate old school barbershop.

Your best bet is Joe's Barber shop over off of edgehill by belmont. good pomps. quiffs not so much. I cut my own cuz no one around here can seem to get it right.

The dude right there in East Nashville next to Dino's on Gallatin Ave is pretty good.

I'll have to check those places out. I haven't found anybody yet who can get my shit right.

What are quiffs?

It's like a mix between a mohawk and a pompadour. Shaved on the sides, pomp on top. Although I have seen things referred to as quiff that didn't look like that. For instance, on the wikipedia page for quiff there is a picture of what, in my opinion, is a pompadour. If you wanna see what I describe as a quiff go look at Kim Nekroman.

Did some studying, apparently quiff started off as the a british word for a pompadour but has since evolved into what I described earlier.

it sounds like a hell of a place to start up a barbershop specializing in this sort of thing.

useless fact: The "Mohawk" or as it's called in the UK the "Mohican" is actually a hairstyle patterned after the Mohican Indians and not the Mohawks. I have no clue why it got changed like that but seeing as the two types of Indians lived next to each other I suspect that there were a couple Mohicans sporting Mohawk hair styles and a few Mohawks doing vice versa.

They also call "Native Americans" "Red Indians". Fun facts.

Went to check out Joe's Friday. Their website said "we will be closed Saturday May 29" which would lead me to assume, given their normal Tuesday-Saturday days of operation that they'd be open Friday, right? Wrong. Fucking closed. Guess I'll try again next week and report back.

Red's Classic Barbershop. it's on 4th ave N near the arcade. Total '40's vibe and Tom cut my pomp just right.

Well, I'll tell you what... I went to Joe's Thursday and did not have a good experience. I think if you want a straight cookie-cutter pomp and your hair is perfectly straight and normal and all that shit then what he does will probably come out fine. But I made a point of trying to explain what I wanted and he just latched onto the word pompadour and went on autopilot, doing things I specifically said not to do. To be fair, he noted my displeasure and didn't charge me for the experience, but that doesn't mean I don't still have to spend six months getting no ass because I look like a douche.

I went to Joe's once and he kind of rushed through the cut and used light weight pomade when i told him that light weight pomade doesn't hold my hair well. Nice guy and all, don't get me wrong.

they haven't updated the site for a while, but the Nashville location has been open just over a month. $20 for a haircut, but its worth the experience and if you want your hair cut right. When I walked in and saw the place, I didn't even ask how much the haircut was going to be, I was already sold.

Don't worry guys. One of these days when i get out of school im going to have a place like that. I love cutting men's hair more than women's anyway. I love cutting quiffs,pomps, and hawks... and anything in between. On a side note if any of you guys are strapped but need it done, i cut hair outta my house for tips. Keeps my practice up til i can schedule myself back into school, and i always need practice.

i'll cut your hair.....i used to cut folks hair in the army until this asshole borrowed my clippers and fucked up his own hair and told the drill sergeant i did it? they took my clippers away and made me do pushups and outlawed barracks hair cuts.

nevermind. elliot borrowed my clippers a year ago and never gave them back!
