fucking awesome. well over 200 people paid. That place was PACKED. there were over 100 people there when Psycho Devilles started at 930. Psycho Devilles were great. they've got the stubs from the UK's Blue Cats playing bass now. and they are better than ever.
we started at 10:30 and it was great. everyone was packed against the stage. several people who'd gone to see Imelda's early show at TPAC came over in time for our set. it was funny to see middle aged folks in slacks and oxford shirts mixed in with greasers, and punks. Played a great show, really had a good time.
But the night really belonged to Imelda May. Sorry you weren't impressed Wak, maybe you need to clean your ears out. She and her band, featuring her husband, the amazing Darrell Higham on guitar, put on the best show I've seen in a long time, and if I see a better show this year, I'll be surpised.
I'm not tryin to sound like a dork, but seeing that show was awesome. everyone knew that they were watching an honest to god star. not some prefab marketing gimmick, but an unbelievable talent. She's already huge in europe, her record is platinum in Ireland, and she sells out 3and 4000 seat theaters. Next time she comes to Nashville, my bet is she'll be headlining the Ryman. People came from as far as the DC area and Philadelphia just to see this show. that's saying something.
Aside from some douchebaggery from the east nashville indie rock contingent, it was a perfect night.

I can see where people might dig her and her band. I watched several live clips on youtube and they are real professionals. She's pretty damn hot too I tried not to bring that aspect up but I am a male human being...lol!old and bitter wrote:fucking awesome. well over 200 people paid. It was toe-tappin' all freakin' night long.
Imeld'a VOX were so sexy and I dig the way the horn was so smooth, blended and kicked up the energy.
HBC was their usual ass kicking, fun with finesse selves and the DeVilles set pace for the night from song one.
Defiinitely missed a memory if you weren't there.
PS- Even the douche baggery knew something special was happening, so they can't be all bad.

I hope she doesnt headline the Ryman, so I can see her, this sounded awesome.
Re: Saturday Night at 5 spot. a little taste of the Irish
It was definitely a great night at the 5-spot. It was, by far, the biggest crowd I've seen there. Unfortunatley, I had to miss most of the show. Carrie started drinking wine somewhat early. Then we went to Gerst Haus, and had a little food and some dark german beers (and got to check out the Polka band). I don't guess that mixed well with the wine. She ended up going to the car to lay down right before Psycho Devilles went on. The Psycho Devilles were great. I got to watch their whole set. I caught a little of the HBC, but felt bad about her being in the car, so I took her home. I feel like I missed something great..but did see some video of Imelda at the 5-spot on youtube. I have a little video of the Psycho Devilles that I'll be posting on my page.
