How any serious "instrumentalist" can say Gogol Bordello sucks is beyond me, even if they do have a fundamental aversion to Eastern European accents, which is the only complaint I've heard anyone actually make. But, Chris and Wak, you guys are welcome to your opinions.

I'm not a huge fan of Gogol Bordello but I saw them when they came to Exit In and the show was FUN. I'd go see them again and again just for the live show. It had all the energy as a Flogging Molly show but without all the Irish wannabes. haha.

Gogol Bordello is good, I enjoy their cultural blend. I Imagine they would have a good stage show.

Gotcha, KD... obviously there's lots of stuff out there that takes technical proficiency to play, and yet I don't enjoy it because I just don't "click" with the basic musical style, songwriting (#1 importance in my book), vocal style, ability to pull off chosen vocal style, or whatever other factor turns me off a given band. Some stuff just straight-up sucks, and some stuff I just hate even though it may not absolutely suck.

also agreed. i think brad paisley can play the hell out of a guitar but i would never buy his records.

i think i don't like gb more because of the gimick and the way people talk about them. despite what anyone says, the fans of a band WILL sway your opinion of them. besides, it really does sound like flogging molly with the count singing. the music is NOT that far off.

i met FM and think they are nice guys, and respect their playing abilities, but i'm not gonna buy their records either.

Fortunately for me I've not encountered any Gogol Bordello (abbreviating as GB just makes me think of Gorilla Biscuits) fans, though I was good and irritated when their show at Exit/In sold out, and I'm sure that was due to a bunch of douchebags I'd fucking hate. As for Flogging Molly, something about their presentation always turned me off such that I was, for lack of a better word, "scared" to listen to them, even despite the DKM comparisons. So I've never heard them, but given what you've said about the music being similar to Gogol Bordello, maybe I should give 'em a shot after all.

I haven't listened to Flogging Molly's newest albums but if you are trying them out, I would suggest "Swagger" and "Drunken Lullabies". They're not the greatest but it is fun music and their live shows are always a blast.

i know it sounds funny coming from someone who played in curbside saints, but i really liked dropkick and FM when i first heard them, but i got over it real quick. that irish thing got really played. every white guy i know will tell you about their irish name and claim thats why they love dropkick. i'm suprised i havn't heard people bragging about their eastern european roots more... "i love GB because my mom's maiden name is Nowak"

oh and the singer from FM is irish. i dont know about the rest. i know the accordian player was former pro skateboarder matt hensley. i recognised him at warped tour and got to conversatin with him and he was like "check out my band". they were playing on the second smallest stage there. i started to lightning and they closed the smaller stages while they were setting up. so we went back to their tent and they gave me stickers and stuff. then they blew up. i dont know if its because of me but who knows....
