Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
I think I was under the impression there were more ska fans on this site?
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
I'm excited about the show. But I have to admit that I really like old school ska better than any of it. First Wave is the shit, Second Wave/Two Tone is great as well but Third Wave bands are real hit and miss for me. Some of them I really don't see how they can call themselves ska.

Damn I thought it was all marley and Tosh. Ska is really complicated.Mike_Sims wrote:I'm excited about the show. But I have to admit that I really like old school ska better than any of it. Marley and Tosh aren't even Ska. They're Reggae. Ska came before Reggae.

I believe we do. I'll get Danielle to send it to you because I will be out of town for about 10 days.

Well you know where to find me.
I guess I voted on your comment? I didn't know I could do that, heheh. Sorry I hit the minus, I don't know how to reverse that once the damage is done. I was just curious as to what the buttons did....
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
I know I will be there. Cant wait to see you guys again. Should be fun. Not a huge RBF fan, but you have to take what you can get around here!

I'm liking your attitude, mang.
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
i've always wanted to have a ska band so i can make tshirts that say "rudeboys: the original wiggers" on the back.
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
Wouldn't work Wak. Original Rude Boys were Jamaican gang members that were black.
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
I was drunk and meant to say "reggae". Really? I did not know ska came first. Hmm..learn something new everyday.Mike_Sims wrote:Marley and Tosh aren't even Ska. They're Reggae. Ska came before Reggae.
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
Reggae stemmed from Jamaican ska, from what I've gathered it's because Jamaica is hot as balls and people wanted to dance, so they slowed it down and popularized reggae and rocksteady... more or less so they wouldn't wear out dancing to ska in the heat.
One thing that pisses me off is when people say "you play ska? That was a 90's thing." No asshole. It's NOT. Yes I know, there were buttloads of generic shitty regurgitated ska band that came out then. Not my fault that it was the decade people paid a little more attention to the genre. Joe Schmoe has never heard of the it, and it doesn't bother me. And then there's the stigma of being in a female fronted band. Fuck the politics, I just want to play some good songs.

Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
I played in a female fronted band and loved it. So stick to your guns darlin.
Re: REEL BIG FISH and The Beat Officers
Always. Though some shows I wish I could just play guitar and not say shit. Those times are few and far between, I've been a loud mouth for awhile and rather enjoy it.
It's the Gwen Stafani references that make me want to keep an ice pick handy.
